D.U.M.B.O.

We spend so much time walking across the bridge to Brooklyn, we've discovered a number of neat areas along the waterfront. When Dave's mom was here, we walked north along the river and spent some time under the Manhattan Bridge, where there's a beautiful park and a ton of brand new apartments with gorgeous views.

There's debate over what exactly the acronym stands for - most commonly you'll hear "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass" when I believe it's properly "District under the yadda yadda."  I've also heard people say that having bridge and overpass in the same title is redundant, since they mean essentially the same thing, so you'll sometimes hear "District Under the Manhattan and Brooklyn Overpasses."  Which makes sense, since the park stretches between both bridges and it's difficult to tell exactly where one ends and the other begins.

There were geese in the river!  Which struck me as hilarious and weird, because I think of this area as oceanfront, but DVC and his mom reminded me it technically is a river.  Still, I found it fascinating.

Set just 50 feet back from the water is a vintage carousel encased completely in glass.  So. Cool.

I absolutely love this area. Though our current apartment is amazing and in a wonderful location, when it eventually comes time to move, I'd love to look in this area. Suppose we'll see, when that time comes, if the river view, floor-to-ceiling windows, loft apartment of my dreams is available (and within price range)!
