H is for Halloween!

After some fun facepainting at school, we went over to our friend Seamus' house to have dinner and do some trick-or-treating with him. The boys had a blast running around knocking on doors, though several times Graham dumped his bucket of candy into the bowl that was offered, so not entirely sure he understood the concept. :)

We did another brief round of trick-or-treating back at our apartment building,
which was in full-blown Halloween ruckus mode. There were so many kids roaming around,
yelling in the stairwell and tearing up and down hallways, it was fun but a little intense for G.

We had fun for about 15 minutes, but then it was time to head for home.

Well, it was good while it lasted.

H is for Hotdog

We finally made it out to Coney Island!!

I've been wanting to head out to Coney Island for so long. It's been on the bucket list since we very first moved here. Just seems like something you should see if you're living in New York. But it's soooo far. A few weekends ago, we finally decided to bite the bullet and hop on the subway out there. I didn't care about riding the ferris wheel or anything, just wanted to walk up and down the boardwalk and check things out, so we left pretty early in the morning figured we'd have breakfast and then head back.

First of all, when I say far, I mean FAR. It took nearly two hours to get all the way out there. Fifteen minute walk from our house to the subway, switch at 42nd street to an express train to Brooklyn, ride as far as possible then switch to a local train (because there are no express trains all the way to the beach on the weekends DOH!) and sloooowly inch along the rest of the way to Coney Island. Graham loves riding the subway. But by the time we got there, all three of us desperately needed to get outside.

It was bright and sunny, chilly but not cold. It was also REALLY WEIRD being there that early in the morning. An area built for crowds looks utterly bizarre when completely deserted. A place intended for exploring under the blanket of night with the charm of twinkling lights feels oddly exposed in the bright light of day. And a park full of roller coasters and wild rides feels oddly calm and silent when they are at rest.

Still it was still fun to meander up and down the boardwalk,
which we had pretty much to ourselves so G could go nuts.

Just as I was getting a bit mopey that this wasn't the Coney Island experience I'd been hoping for...

we stumbled upon the mecca that made it all worthwhile.

If you think 10am is too early for hotdogs... you, my friend, are wrong.

They were AMAZING and totally saved our outing.

Still working on our family jump photo skills, however....

PS Bethel, thought of you:

Come visit so we can go!!!

23 Months

Agggghhhh the very last of the months posts! It's ridiculous to continue them past two years old, I am very well aware of that, but MY GOSH, how can I let them go? This boy is the best. He's goofy and cheerful and almost always smiling. When meltdowns do occur, they are quick and easy to resolve.

Sometimes he wants to hold hands on the way home from school.
Sure makes steering difficult, but my heart can hardly handle the sweetness.

D and G both had Columbus Day off but I didn't, so the boys came to visit me at work! Graham had a fun time spinning in every chair he could find and poking his head into random offices to say hello.

Current faves:

Movie - Winnie the Pooh

Phrase - Achoo! Bless you!

Food - peanut butter sandwich

Drink - green juice

Toy - legos, trains, trash truck (preferably simultaneously)

Activity - riding the bus, waving at strangers, climbing everything,
saying hello to doormen at random buildings ("Hi Doorman!")

My current favorite thing is that his answer to any age question is "six."
How old are you?  Six.
How old will you turn next month?  Six.
How old is mommy?  Six.

Thanks for a fun visit, Bopbop!

Grandpa Chris came to visit this weekend and Graham's eyes just about bugged out of their sockets when the front desk called up to say he was here. We recently had new intercom phones installed and I'd told G that the next ring meant Grandpa was here - when that thing rang he BOLTED for the door. He can actually say "grandpa" now, so gone are the days of "Bopbop" (though I think we'll hold onto it a bit for cuteness sake). It was a bit rainy and we were stuck inside a lot of the time, but these two peas in a pod happily played Legos for about 36 hours straight...
