Plum Beach Farm

Our first adventure during our week in Cape May was to Plum Beach Farm to pick up some local produce.

It was a gorgeous spot with a ton to see and do - fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables as well as homemade honey and jam for sale, lots of animals to visit and even a scavenger hunt that took you all over the property!

I am SO GOOD at scavenger hunts.

Elliot doesn't walk anywhere. He runs everywhere. And while running, he likes to narrate.
Hearing his happy little screams announcing "Running!!" coming from all over the farm was so sweet.

Something I was fascinated by was the shell driveway. I thought it was so beautiful, and unexpected at a farm.

We ended up getting some bell peppers for grilling, a bag of arugula, a few cantaloupes and some fresh herbs. So good on salads all week!!

31 Weeks

Less than two months to go and Baby C is the size of a pineapple!
(though decidedly less spiky)

Major things seem to be happening! Baby C is a crazy wiggle worm, whose somersaults I can feel all day long. We are sifting through some pediatrician recommendations from our doctor and have signed up for a labor and delivery class at the hospital. Had a wonderful visit from Laurie this weekend and she gave us an infant medical care kit - nothing like tiny nail clippers, a rectal thermometer and a nasal aspirator to make you realize oh my this is really happening and I will be suctioning boogies out of someone's nose in just a few months!

Also, in case you didn't already hear, we happened to find out that Baby C is a BOY!

We are ecstatic and couldn't possibly be any more excited for his arrival. Getting to say "my son" makes it all so much more real - a real, live baby boy (rather than an "it") will be joining our little family so very soon. And he's got sweet new balance kicks just like pops!

What A Year

'Cause everyone's my friend in New York City
And everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
The streets are paved with diamonds and there's just so much to see
But the best thing about New York City is you and me.
- They Might Be Giants

Nearly nine months of wedded bliss and two months til the arrival of a new family member!
You're my dog, DVC.

Welcome to Cape May

You know how sometimes you're so excited for a vacation and then you get there and it's different than you were expecting or not quite what you were hoping so you end up disappointed rather than relaxed and rejuvenated?  THIS WAS THE TOTAL OPPOSITE OF THAT!  Cape May was awesome beyond our wildest dreams.

Cape May is a tiny little Victorian town on the southern-most point of the New Jersey shore, the last bit of land before you hit the Delaware Sound. There are actually only 4,700 year-round residents, though the population surges to nearly 50,000 over the summer weekends. Cape May is technically an island, due to a canal running between the harbor on the Atlantic side and the sound. The streets are lined with adorable bed and breakfasts, historic guest houses, charming rentals with wrap-around porches and beautiful multi-family beach-front homes.

Our dear friends, the Spero family (Mike, Elaine and Elliot), have been visiting Cape May each summer for the past several years and invited us to join them on this year's excursion. We rented a 3 bedroom house on a quiet, tree-lined street a few blocks from the beach for a full week. Never having visited the area before, DVC and I weren't quite sure what to expect, but were absolutely charmed immediately upon arrival.

The beach was a 10 minute walk from our place, so we spent most mornings walking up and down the coast. The dads (eeeee I love that that now includes Dave!) would play tennis every day at naptime, then afternoons we would all venture around the island checking out local areas of interest. The weather was absolutely perfect, low to mid 80s and slightly breezy all week. It was so incredibly relaxing.

Several evenings we took advantage of the grill in our backyard and bbq'd the fresh catch from the local fish market. Dave turned out to be the master chef, impressing us all with his grilling prowess! Added to the ever-growing list of reasons I won the husband lottery.

Plus, he's a baller.

So much more to come on our Cape May adventures, so stay tuned!

30 Weeks

Baby is now as long as a cucumber! (Though definitely a bit thicker 'round the middle.)

Had our 30 week ultrasound appointment at the hospital this morning and all looked good. Baby C's growth is right on track, weighing in at an estimated 3 lbs, 6 ounces. Most likely will double in weight over the next 10 weeks, so guessing baby will be around 7 lbs at birth (give or take a few ounces depending on delivery date). Passed my glucose test from last appointment, so no need to worry about gestational diabetes (woohoo!). The long weekend allowed us to spend some time nesting - cleaned out all of our closets, reorganized storage and put together a few more baby items. Getting closer to feeling "ready" or at least as ready as can hope to feel!

So teeny, so cute!
